Karl Agne, Principal

Karl Agne is a founding partner of Gerstein | Agne, providing strategy, message, and research services to a variety of corporate, political, and non-profit clients. Agne specializes in the use of focus groups and in-depth interviews, as well as media testing and perception analyzer exercises, to gain greater insight into consumers' decision-making processes.

Agne has conducted research on a broad array of issues, from the re-branding of Fortune 500 companies in international markets to the revision of federal environmental regulations in the wake of the September 11th terrorist attacks, and played a leading role in hundreds of political campaigns, including the election of British Prime Minister Tony Blair in 1997 and the Gore-Lieberman campaign in 2000.

Agne also serves as Senior Advisor to Democracy Corps, a non-profit advocacy group he helped found in 1999 with James Carville, Stan Greenberg, and Bob Shrum. Agne directs all focus group research and analysis for the organization and is the author of Democracy Corps' regular report on polling and other public opinion research, providing strategic advice and insight into public attitudes to more than 9,000 elected officials and private-sector leaders at the federal, state, and local levels.

Agne has conducted research for hundreds of political campaigns at every level, from municipal elections to congressional and gubernatorial contests to directing national research and message development for the Gore-Lieberman campaign. He began his research career as a Senior Associate with Greenberg Quinlan Research, the premier public opinion research firm providing strategic consultation and issue management for organizations and political parties throughout the world.

Agne received his Bachelor of Arts from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA and earned a Master of Arts in campaign management from the Graduate School of Political Management at George Washington University.
